Friends of NutritionWorks- We have had an overwhelming amount of questions on staying healthy as the CoronaVirus continues to spread across the US.
We want to teach you how to proactively up-level your immune system with nutrition, supplementation and lifestyle management.
NUTRITION
We encourage you to be selective in your dietary choices with the primary focus being vegetables, fruits, and lean protein.
Choose fruits and vegetables high in vitamin C.

Lean protein that is organic locally sourced or pasture-raised (freshwater caught) is ideal to support your immune system.

Reduce processed sugar –not only does sugar increase inflammation, it causes blood sugar spikes and dips. This instability promotes increased cortisol, which lowers your immune function overall.
Consider reducing or eliminating dairy – dairy stimulates mucus production not only in the gut but also the respiratory tract. This mucus production can increase bacterial build-up and subsequently result in infection. Because coronavirus can attack the respiratory system it only makes sense to remove dairy for the time being.
SUPPLEMENTS
At NutritionWorks, we are advocates of supplementation during times of need. Providing the body with vitamins and minerals for cellular use is important when demands increase or you have a decreased ability to process and absorb specific nutrients.
In the event you contract Coronavirus, we may recommend different products for acute care.
Additionally, because the nutraceutical industry is not well regulated, we only recommend pharmaceutical grade product lines that have been tested for purity and efficacy.
We recommend the following supplements proactively and please note, many of these supplements are running out of stock due to the high demand. We suggest purchasing yours as soon as possible. Should one of these be out of stock, it is ok to do a search for a comparable product – these are just a few of our favorites.
Specific brands we recommend are: Xymogen, Designs for Health, Integrative Therapeutics, Pure Encapsulation, Metagenics.
Vitamin K2D3 – 5,000 iu daily:
Vitamin C – 1,000 – 3,000 mg daily (take away from Vitamin D)
MultiVitamin – dose according to bottle
Zinc – 20 mg daily

LIFESTYLE MANAGEMENT
As with anything, how we go through life on a daily basis plays an important role in our bodies health and wellbeing. Daily stressors from work, relationship, kids, environmental toxins and low-quality foods impact our organ systems – specifically our immune system.
During this time, we encourage all of you to be more mindful, slow down and take extra care.
Sleep – by far sleep is one of the most important components of a healthy body. This is the only time our body can truly repair the stress of the day. Please make this a #1 priority for yourself and your kids.
Wash your hands – I know you’ve heard it a thousand times but keep doing it. Please. It helps prevent the spreading of the virus.
Reduce stress – easier said than done but stress increases cortisol, cortisol decreases immune function. Slow down, get outside, consider saying “no” more often so you have more time to decompress, relax and lower cortisol……Also, I recommend watching less news – specifically if you find yourself fired up, angry, frustrated or scared when you do.
Exercise – preferably outside. Not only does fresh air reduce the possibility of contracting the virus, it provides you with natural vitamin D (if you go during the day). Exercise increases oxygenation of the brain and cells, helps promote detoxification and naturally increases endorphins – all good stuff for your immune system.
