Our Brains LOVE To Negotiate!
The human body is tricky.
But not as tricky as the human brain!
Our brains are crazy smart.
And manipulative.
And wise.
And total a**holes.
And brilliant, compassionate, feeble, fair-weathered….you name it, our brain is it.
This is what makes getting healthy a challenge!
I’m honest with our clients about this.
I openly tell them figuring out what is going on with your body, from an organ system perspective, is the easy part (for us).
Changing your brain to implement the care plan, stay on protocol, take your supplements, exercise, hold your commitment to healing, and changing the way you operate…that is the hard part!
Why?
Because you have YEARS of neural programming.
You have centuries of passed down DNA – which yes, also impacts our thoughts & beliefs.
You have modeling from your parents.
You have 24/7 external inputs from society (thank you internet).
All of this is absorbed, processed, and infused in your brain, causing you to act the way you act.
And the work to change this is WAY harder than eating broccoli or cutting out gluten.
Your beliefs need to be evaluated.
Your values are questioned.
Your perspective changed.
Your brain managed.
This is not easy, quick-fix stuff here, ladies!
Take this morning for example. As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter, I am making a micro-change to go to the gym Monday mornings. And this morning my commitment was challenged!
I stayed up too late watching Lucifer (feel free to judge me here), so I was tired when I woke up. I’d also had an emotional conversation with my son the night before. And because I have nearly 47 years of telling myself “I’m not good at working out in the morning“, I immediately started to negotiate with myself!
I also have modeling from generations before me that mothers are supposed to sacrifice their well-being for others – specifically their kids – I had “mom guilt “!
I should stay home and make Pax breakfast.
I should worry and dote over him (which will actually piss him off more – thank you teenage years).
I should do anything other than getting out of bed and do what I said I would do.
And that is exactly what keeps us in the unhealthy loop we are in. ALL the mental chatter, programming, modeling, and negotiating in our brains.
Luckily, I have the tools to work through this.
I had to override the negotiations to create a different result.
I had to choose immediate discomfort over long-term discomfort.
I had to choose ME, my physical and mental health over past modeling, DNA, societal BS, and limiting beliefs.
I had to work my BRAIN – HARD – to change my thoughts.
So you see, figuring out the physical health piece of the puzzle is the easy part.
Supporting you in rewiring your brain to implement and maintain it is the hard part.
This is why we at Whole Woman Health believe that no care plan should be given without emotional & psychological support.
They go hand in hand to create lasting change.
We are here to help when you are ready.
