Hola from Cabo San Lucas: Investing Big
I’m in Cabo for a week to work on my business…which also means ‘work on myself’.
Because what I know for certain is my business success is in direct correlation with my personal success.
It’s the same for all of you. When life is good, you are more productive, creative, and sharp, process quickly, and deliver high-value work.
When you don’t feel well, are fighting with your partner, not sleeping, and are burned out, it negatively impacts your work.
Your brain is slow, you lack motivation, you’re mentally hijacked by the fight you had with your husband, you’re uncomfortable in your clothes, distracted, and maybe even hold back in meetings because you just can’t give a shit right now.
Your health, mental well-being, and personal life will positively or negatively impact your work.
Because YOU are the epicenter and if YOU are not well, it ripples out into all aspects of your life; personal and professional.
Here’s where I’m going with this. What I see happening with women is an avoidance of investing in themselves personally. They have no problem justifying investing in a career or business coach, but not a health coach. Or marriage, life, nutrition, fill-in-the-blank coach.
Investing in their career is admirable.
Investing in themselves is selfish.
I have witness to this. My partner is an Executive Coach. He works with mid-career and C-level professionals. On a weekly basis, he will come home and tell me about a new client he’s working with.
Six months of bi-weekly coaching for $15,000.00. The clients don’t even flinch at this price tag because making an investment in their career is admirable. It shows dedication, commitment, and ambition; all socially valued qualities of a good employee!
I come home and tell him about a potential client I spoke with who is interested in the SHED program. 3-months of functional medicine and nutrition, including supplements, laboratory testing, identifying underlying health conditions and repairing them, twice weekly coaching, massive support, and materials to totally overhaul their health, lose weight, and change their body composition for $5,000.00 and you know what happens…..they freak out.
They tell me how they could NEVER spend that much money on themselves!
Wait, you’re willing to invest in your career but not yourself?
Hearing this drives me crazy and reminds me that as a society we have our priorities ass-backward. You’ve been told it’s ok to invest in your career to work more and earn more, but not your health and well-being to be able to sustain that career?
YOU ARE YOUR CAREER!
The value you bring to the table is what you are paid for.
And if your health is tanked, your feel like crap, and your headspace is a crime scene, how are you possibly providing the highest value possible?
If you’re living with low-quality health (mental and physical), you’re bringing low-quality work to your job.
It’s not like you check it at the office door; it comes with you. Your health and well-being follow you wherever you go and it will either improve your life or diminish it.
Which brings this story full circle.
I invested a lot of money in the Mastermind I’m attending in Cabo.
I also invested a lot of money to care for myself before it begins by spending three days before and after resting, meditating, exercising, eating well, reading, writing, and restoring before working on the 5-year plan for my business.
I am willing to invest equal amounts of money in myself as I am in my business because I am the creator of the success of my business and if I am not 100%, my business won’t be 100%.
I have learned that any other way is the hard way.
If you’re not investing in yourself personally first, you are doing it the hard way.
Please stop doing it the hard way.
Doing it the hard way doesn’t make you more worthy, it just makes you more tired.
Give yourself permission to invest in yourself personally in equal amounts as you would professionally.
The women I work with understand this and are rewarded for it.
Be like them.
I’ll help.
