Today I’m going to tell you the second dirty little secret about the diet industry.
One that leaves you feeling confused, discouraged, and defeated.
It’s also the piece that is essential to freedom from dieting ever again.
Here it is.
Dieting creates dependency.
The diet industry teaches you how to lose weight, typically through restriction and hyper-vigilance, but they don’t tell you how to create a lifestyle that ensures weight loss and MAINTENANCE.
The diet industry doesn’t want you to know how to fine-tune your nutrition to make it sustainable. (dependency)
The diet industry doesn’t want you to know how to create flexibility with your nutrition to flow with life. (dependency)
The diet industry wants you to ONLY succeed while you are ON their diet, so you come back over and over again…..because clearly, you can’t do it on your own as the scale will validate in just two short weeks after the plan ends. (dependency)
They do not teach you how to make it a lifestyle, because lifestyles create agency, empowerment, and freedom from dieting.
Sure eating 15 almonds, drinking celery juice, or weighing your food and counting calories works while you ON the diet. (dependency)
But what do you do after?
Or when you’re traveling?
Or when you’re sick and tired of being a slave to ‘My effing FitnessPal’ to track every bite?
All you want is balance, ease and flow, a flexible plan that allows you to feel like a normal human WHILE maintaining a healthy weight. (freedom)
